The Netherlands, located in Northwestern Europe, is a parliamentary democratic constitutional monarchy administratively divided into 12 provinces. The Netherlands is often called Holland: this is incorrect because North and South Holland are only two of its twelve provinces. The people and the language of Netherlands are defined from the word Dutch. The Netherlands is a geographically low-lying country, with about 27% of its area and 60% of its population located below sea level. Nijmegen is the oldest city of the Netherlands, known internationally for its forest marches and large student population. Rotterdam is important harbor and a modern city with modern architecture. Another historic town is Utrecht, here there is the largest shopping center of the country.
