France is a modern European Republic with a population of 60 million. France is also one of the world's major economies and the most popular tourist destination in the world: in fact it attracts every year 80 million foreign tourists (excluding people staying less than 24 hours in France). The capital city is Paris, the most visited city in the world. The famous attractions of Paris are museums (like the Louvre and Musée d'Orsay) and monuments like the Arc de Triomphe, the Eiffel Tower, the Cathedral of Notre-Dame, many tourists are attracted also from Disneyland Paris. In the east of France there are the Alps with famous skiing sites. Tourist French cities are Lyon, Marseille, Arles, Aix-en-Provence, Bordeaux, Nice, Toulouse, Strasbourg, Avignon with the Popes' palace. France has famous beach in the Mediterranean Sea: the French Riviera (Côte d'Azur), or Languedoc-Roussillon, or Corsica. Away from the mainland the sites most visited are French Polynesia (especially Tahiti), the Caribbean islands Martinique, Guadeloupe and others.
